Politicians are a smart bunch. Corrupt, greedy and underhanded as they are, they are not dumb. Without exception, those who get into the White House (as Obama manged to do) and other political leadership roles do it with money. Lots and lots and lots of money from those who have special interests. In the primaries, politicians woo those who have the money by telling them what they want to hear. It matters not if it is true! It matters not if it is not what they truly believe! It matters not if a critical analysis deems it illogical. They say it to get the money and, espoused properly as successful candidates are almost certain to do, they get the parties nomination.
Now it becomes a matter of winning the race for the position … the presidency let’s say. Suddednly the speeches take on a middle-of-the-road aire! Gone are the strongly biased overtones that rallied the progressive and conservative votes getting them to where they are in the campaign. Instead a softening of the rhetoric is heard. Vicious personal attacks on the opponent become the norm. Issues take a second place position,
Meanwhile voters are apathetic. They don’t bother to take the time to really understand the crap that is being spewed out by the respective campaigns. I dare say that this apathy makes it such that most voters have no real sense of the candidate’s positions on the real issues. Those issues I will assert are always based upon economics. If one studies economics, one will readily see the truth in that statement. All social transactions can be reduced to a matter of supply and demand, the two pillars of the economic system’s workings.
It is voters’ apathy that the successful politician uses to win. He tells the the electorate what they want to hear. Simple as that. The electorate casts its vote based on popularity of the candidate, not on the candidate’s real stance on the issues. Where does the money come into the picture? Tons of dollars are spent to refine the manner in which the candidate creates and spreads his message. Again the message is largely meaningless but do the voters care? They don’t care because they are being told what they want to hear. They are being snared into the candidate’s web that is spun with crap that special interests have funded and clever speech writers have honed into the rhetoric that is sure to become popular with that apathetic public.
Does your vote count? One could argue that is does because it is counted. Accordingly, the candidate with the most votes (the electoral college notwithstanding) wins!. But what have you voted for? You were given a choice of basically two candidates both of whom did their best to serve the special interests from whom their financing comes … the financing that is used to try and buy your vote. I would argue that there is no way your vote makes any difference in the way our leaders lead! They simply lead in a manner dictated by the supplier of the big bucks.
If you really want to make a difference, you must become part of a special interest group. Say what you want about the Tea Party but think of them as a special interest group. Their interests are not always well glued together, but they have made a difference. But look what has happened. With Ron Paul being the only exception, every republican candidate in the presidential race is telling the tea party members what they want to hear. It’s the same old crap … money talks. Money buys votes.
What’s the bottom line here? Start really studying the candidates! Really understand their voting record on issues that matter. Recognize that all issues of consequence are economic issues. Think for yourself! Cast aside political rhetoric. Instead use logic to sift out whether or not the candidate is saying anything substantive.
My vote goes to Ron Paul. He is the only one out there that epitomizes “Be True To Thy Self” . Give him some running room and let the rest of the field wallow in the crap of their own making. If you check it out, you’ll find that many of the candidates are coming around to Ron Paul’s way of thinking that has been his way of thinking for all of the years he has served in congress. Each is taking credit for the novelty of his ideas, but it is only Ron Paul that truly internalizes them. I think he’ll make a good president!
Take time to watch him!
